Scenes as the Primary Vehicle of Storytelling

“Show, don’t tell” is old and familiar news within the writing conversation. But “show” is a loaded word in this context, because there are many forms, as well as functions, within the art of scene conception and execution. Too often writers lack a full and empowered context for those choices, they just write whatever pops into their head when the moment arrives. Scenes are where craft meets art in that moment, and are best conceived in context to a larger macro vision for the story. This session will put a fence around this that allows writers to step up their scene-writing game, regardless of their story development process or their position on the fiction learning curve, which will gain a notch or two as a result of this engagement.
